Registered Massage Therapy

Is a term that encompasses a wide variety of treatment modalities, several of which are expressed through the hands of the therapists at this clinic. Although the registered massage therapists at this clinic work differently from each other, we have the common thread of a holistic intention and understanding behind our treatments which acknowledges how imbalances and stresses on all levels can manifest in our physical bodies through mis-alignment and pain, and how our physical bodies are a manifestation of, and a part of, our entire beings.

Swedish massage is a system of long strokes, kneading, and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of muscles, combined with active and passive movements of joints to increase general body awareness, relaxation, and blood circulation. It is often used initially to warm up tissues in order to perform deeper work.

Systemic Deep Tissue Massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slow strokes and direct pressure or friction applied across the grain of the affected muscles. This technique involves the process of detection of stiff or painful areas by determining the quality and texture of the deeper layers of musculature, and slowly working into the deep layers of muscle tissue. Specific hand positions and strokes are then used to respond to various tissue qualities.

Neuromuscular Technique treats "trigger points" or specific areas of neural activity to break cycles of spasm and pain. The goal is balance between the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system through treatment of dysfunctional biomechanics, postural distortion, lack of blood flow, trigger points, and nerve compression.

Sports Massage utilizes specific strokes and stretches to help obtain maximum performance and physical conditioning with less chance of injury and pain. It increases endurance and flexibility both before and after events or workouts. It often involves deep tissue massage, targeted specifically at the muscles used in athletic activities. It can combine classical Swedish style with trigger point release, compression, and neuromuscular techniques to reduce soreness.

Myo-Fascial Release is a therapy which releases restrictions, adhesions, and lines of tension in the connective tissue layer. Connective tissue connects every muscle, tendon, ligament, bone, and organ in our entire body, and can store memories of physical trauma. Releasing these restrictions and adhesions allows the client to discharge recurring physical, and, when present, energetic and trauma-based pain. Both cranial sacral therapy and visceral manipulation tie in strongly with myo-fascial release.

Craniosacral Therapy is a technique which balances the activity of the central nervous system. It works to free the brain, spinal cord, and their surrounding membranes and bones, of restrictions that can be at the core of perpetuating pain and misalignment in the body. Craniosacral Therapy is gaining acceptance among health professionals worldwide as a successful treatment modality to improve overall body functioning, and for treatment of a wide range of conditions including migraine and tension headaches, ear infections and related conditions, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, chronic pain, migraine headaches, depression, dyslexia, and temporo-mandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ).

Visceral Manipulation focuses on balancing and maintaining the interconnected synchronicity between the motions of all the organs and structures of the body. At optimal health, this harmonious dynamic is stable, despite the body’s endless varieties of motion. When one organ cannot move in harmony with this synchronicity due to abnormal tone, adhension, or displacement, it works against the body’s other organs, as well as muscular membranous, fascial, and osseous structures. This disharmony creates fixed, abnormal points of tension that the body becomes forced to move around. This type of irritation can eventually lead to chronic pain, postural distortions, as well as disease and dysfunction of the affected organ. Visceral manipulation focuses on releasing these adhesions, and synchronizing the affected organ systems with the body as a whole.
